Emma develops and thrives in the heart of an area renowned for high-quality craftsmanship. Originally founded by Ernestino and Giuseppe Emma in 1963, the company’s roots lie in the artisanal tradition of Meda in Brianza, a region renowned for its cabinetmaking and fine fabric upholstery, a tradition that for decades has characterized the industrious crafts of the area north of Milan.
The company was founded by the two Emma brothers, Giuseppe and Ernestino. The initial project involved the production of upholstered furniture and the creation of living room sets for private individuals and businesses. Initially, the company had its own collection and only occasionally produced custom products.
In 1988, the second generation of entrepreneurs joined the company and continued the work they had begun, focusing more on custom production for foreign markets, specifically the Arab market, with the construction of luxury villas.
With the decline in production for the Arab market, the company’s core business shifted to the contract sector, beginning to combine the production of upholstered furniture with that of furniture and furnishing accessories.
During this period, the redevelopment of the headquarters began, along with the expansion of the company in terms of production and workforce, which gave Emma the ability to assume the role of General Contractor for Hospitality projects.
With the expansion of the contract division, Emma acquired a new 4,000-square-meter space for merchandise storage. In 2017, Federica Emma joined the company’s top management after graduating in Industrial Design. That same year, plans to open a carpentry department were developed.
The opening of the carpentry department takes shape with the acquisition of an additional 4,000 m2 of space, including 1,000 m2 of office space, thus uniting the production, warehouse, and contract departments in a single industrial hub.
